1972 Australian Touring Car Championship – End of an Era

The 1972 Australian Touring Car Championship marked the final season for Group C Improved Production cars before the introduction of new touring car regulations in 1973. Spanning eight rounds, the championship saw Bob Jane claim his fourth and final ATCC title behind the wheel of a 5.7L Chevrolet Camaro, edging out Allan Moffat’s Mustang and Mike Stillwell’s Ford Escort.

The 1972 season also marked the ATCC debut of Peter Brock in a Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1, setting the stage for a new generation of Australian touring car legends.
