Built to Win: The Aussie-Bred Cortina GT 500
Released in July 1965 and built exclusively for Australia, only 112 Ford Cortina GT 500s were produced. Developed specifically to conquer Mount Panorama, the GT 500 delivered exactly what it was designed to do, claiming 1st and 2nd outright at the 1965 Armstrong 500.
Driven by Barry Seton and Midge Bosworth, the GT 500’s dominant performance at Bathurst was so impressive that it contributed to rule changes for the following year’s race. Today, this purpose-built Australian Cortina remains an important part of the country’s early touring car history.
Item includes a certificate and production number plate, mounted to the chassis.
