Holden FE - A New Era of Australian Design (1956 - 1958)
By the mid-1950s, Holden had firmly established itself as Australia’s leading car manufacturer. To modernize its lineup, Holden introduced the FE model in July 1956, a bold step forward in design and engineering.
The FE featured a larger, roomier body with a longer wheelbase and wider track. Its sleek new look included a lower roofline, flatter bonnet and boot, and a more modern silhouette. Visibility was dramatically improved with a curved one-piece windscreen and a larger rear window, increasing driver visibility by 40%.
Mechanical upgrades included a switch to a 12-volt electrical system, a hydraulically operated clutch, and an enhanced version of the reliable ‘grey engine’, now producing 53kW, up from 45kW, thanks to a higher compression ratio, reinforced piston heads, and larger valves.
The FE range began with the Standard Sedan, Business Sedan, and Special Sedan, and expanded in 1957 to include the Utility, Station Sedans, and Panel Van, marking the first time Holden offered a wagon in its lineup.
With a total production of 155,161 vehicles, the FE was a milestone in Holden’s history, paving the way for the FC series in July 1958.
Includes a certificate of authenticity and production number plate mounted to the chassis.
