Last of a Legend: The Rare and Refined HG Monaro

Released on 26 July 1970, the HG Monaro was the final model of the original Monaro coupe design and is today regarded as one of the rarest and most sought-after early Holden coupes. The HG featured cleaner lines, reduced brightwork and distinctive styling updates that gave the final-generation Monaro a sharper, more refined appearance.

The HG Monaro GTS introduced distinctive Sidewinder decal stripes running along the upper edge of the fenders, beneath the windows and finishing just before the rear pillars. The GTS 350 received an especially bold treatment, with black-out detailing on the rocker panels and bonnet scoop, plus distinctive GTS 350 decals on the fenders and boot lid. A redesigned grille and cleaner taillights completed the facelift.

Performance remained a key part of the GTS 350 formula. The manual HG GTS 350 retained the suspension from the HT GTS 350, while power front disc brakes became standard across V8 and six-cylinder Monaro GTS models. With its 350 V8, crisp driving characteristics and Salisbury limited-slip differential, the manual GTS 350 represented the definitive road-going Monaro of its generation.

The HG range produced 155,787 vehicles in total, including just 14,437 Monaro GTS coupes, making this final version of the original Monaro body shell a particularly significant piece of Australian automotive history.

This highly detailed 1/18 scale diecast replica is finished in Mediterranean Blue Metallic and includes an individually numbered etched metal plate, making it an excellent addition to any Holden or Australian muscle car collection.

• The engine bay showcases the 350 V8, complete with a chrome air cleaner featuring large openings and visible etched metal mesh.
• The rear chassis features the detailed exhaust system, including the dual exhaust that splits into four chrome-tipped tailpipes.
• The front chassis displays the engine sump, exhaust system and working suspension, with the front wheels linked to the steering wheel.
• The chassis bears an individually numbered etched metal plate representing the edition number of your model.
