HJ Monaro GTS: Australia’s Bold Muscle Icon
Launched in October 1974, the HJ Monaro GTS built on the HQ’s success with a striking new look and key refinements. Featuring beefier styling, blacked-out grille, wrap-around rear lights, aggressive side vents, and factory spoilers—including a deep rear spoiler—this model made a powerful statement.
Inside, it offered full foam high-backed seats in various trims and a unique sports instrument panel with clear gauges and enhanced ventilation. Under the hood, Holden upgraded the local 308 engine to maintain performance despite U.S. emissions restrictions on the Chevrolet 350.
The HJ Monaro GTS remains a beloved classic, cementing its place as an iconic chapter in Australia’s muscle car history.
