CORGI 1/32 HAWKER HURRICANE MKI - P3966 - PILOT OFFICER J.A. 'PADDY' HEMMINGWAY

Corgi Hawker Hurricane Mk.I – P3966 – Pilot Officer J.A. 'Paddy' Hemmingway Diecast Model Aircraft

The Corgi Hawker Hurricane Mk.I recreates P3966, flown by Irishman John 'Paddy' Hemmingway of No.85 Squadron, one of Churchill's famous 'Few'.

Hemmingway joined the RAF in March 1938 and was flying Hawker Hurricanes with No.85 Squadron by the outbreak of the Second World War. Sent to France with the Air Component of the British Expeditionary Force, he helped the squadron destroy 90 enemy aircraft in just eleven days, with his own tally including Heinkel He 111 and Dornier Do 17 bombers. Hemmingway and No.85 Squadron went on to fight throughout the Battle of Britain, during which he was forced to bale out of two Hurricanes — the first pilot in his squadron to do so over English soil, with the wreck of one Hurricane later the subject of a 1987 excavation attempt. He took to his parachute four times over his wartime career and put his survival down to Irish luck. When John 'Paddy' Hemmingway passed away in March 2025 at the age of 105, he was the last surviving fighter pilot from the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain.
