Product Information
Corgi Fokker D.VII (OAW) – Ltn. Wilhelm Leusch Diecast Model Aircraft
The Corgi Fokker D.VII (OAW) recreates the striking dragon-liveried fighter flown by Ltn. Wilhelm Leusch of Jasta 19 during the closing weeks of the First World War.
Photographed only in the war's final weeks, this Fokker D.VII carried an elaborately painted dragon design copied from an advertisement for the Unterberg & Helme ignition company — a striking choice given Germany's declining fortunes at the time. Wilhelm Leusch joined the Luftstreitkräfte in October 1914, initially flying artillery-spotting missions before joining Royal Prussian Jasta 19 in April 1917, where he began scoring aerial victories. He was promoted to command the unit in October 1918 following the death of its previous commander, finishing the war with five victories as Allied air superiority made further successes difficult. By the war's end, this Fokker was pictured under French control, though it remains unclear whether it was captured in combat or flown there under the terms of the armistice, as with many surviving Fokker D.VIIs.
