McDonnell Douglas Phantom II FG.1 XV582 'Black Mike' is a detailed 1/48 scale die-cast model celebrating one of the RAF's most memorable commemorative aircraft schemes. XV582 received its distinctive all-over gloss black finish while serving with RAF No. 111 Squadron at Leuchars, commemorating both the Phantom's RAF service and the heritage of the famous 'Black Arrows' Aerobatic Display Team.

The 'Black Arrows' flew gloss black Hawker Hunters at airshows throughout Britain between 1955 and 1960. At the 1958 Farnborough show, the team achieved a world record by looping 22 Hunters in formation. XV582's commemorative scheme was initially intended for a static 'At Home' Airshow appearance at Leuchars in 1989, but proved so popular that the aircraft became Treble One Squadron's display aircraft the following year.

Known as 'Black Mike' because of her colour and squadron letter, XV582 became an especially famous RAF Phantom. She made her final flight on 22nd September 1990 before retirement as a static attraction at Leuchars Airshow.
