Douglas™ AC-47 Gunship 'Spooky 71' is a detailed 1/72 scale die-cast model depicting the famous gunship involved in a dramatic combat action over Long Binh, Vietnam, on 24th February 1969. Developed from the venerable Douglas C-47 Skytrain, the AC-47 became one of the most feared weapons of the conflict, providing concentrated suppressing fire for troops on the ground.

During the night action, gunship 43-49770 'Spooky 71' was providing fire support for troops under attack when the aircraft was struck by a mortar round in its right wing. The impact created a large hole and left the aircraft peppered with 3,500 shrapnel holes, while members of the crew suffered multiple shrapnel wounds.

Airman First Class John Levitow displayed extraordinary courage during the attack. After seeing a smoking flare that had blown back into the cabin, he placed his body over it and moved it towards the open door before rolling it into the night sky. His actions saved both the aircraft and his crewmates and earned him the Medal of Honor.
