REVELL
REVELL 1/72 MODEL SET GERMAN MIDGET SUBMARINE TYPE MOLCH
$69.00
Product Information
During World War II, Nazi Germany developed several midget submarines for coastal operations. The Biber ("beaver") was a one-man vessel armed with two externally mounted torpedoes or mines. Hastily developed, it suffered from technical flaws and inadequate operator training, limiting its effectiveness despite 324 units being delivered. The Molch ("newt") was the first German mini-submarine, fully electric and designed for coastal missions, but it proved unsuccessful in combat, suffering heavy losses. The Hecht ("pike") was a two-man, all-electric submarine based on British designs, intended to carry explosive charges beneath enemy ships. The Seehund ("seal") was a two-man submarine used in the war's closing months, sinking nine merchant vessels and damaging three more, while losing 35 boats, mostly due to bad weather. These midget submarines were part of Germany's efforts to counter Allied naval superiority.
