The Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9 was developed as a higher-performance evolution of the Fw190, entering service in 1944 with a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 engine replacing the radial engine used by earlier variants. The resulting aircraft combined a streamlined appearance with impressive high-speed performance, allowing it to challenge some of the most capable Allied fighters of the period.
