The Tamiya 1/48 Heinkel He162 A-2 "Salamander" recreates the Luftwaffe's compact jet fighter in detailed 1/48 scale, with a top-mounted BMW003 turbojet, distinctive tail design and options for displaying the engine and canopy in different configurations.

Please note this is an unassembled plastic model kit requiring assembly; paints, cement and hobby tools are not included and are required to complete the model.

As the situation became more desperate for German forces near the end of WWII, a call was made for a new inexpensive jet fighter that would be simple to produce and fly. Heinkel developed the small He162 in an exceptionally short period, with the prototype progressing from drawing board to first flight in just three months. The lightweight aircraft featured mainly wooden construction and was powered by a BMW003 turbojet. With a top speed of 838km/h, Tamiya describes it as the fastest jet fighter of WWII. The He162 reached combat units in late March 1945.
