The Douglas F4D Skyray first flew in 1951 and quickly demonstrated its exceptional performance, setting speed and climb-related records during its development. The production F4D-1 entered U.S. Navy squadron service in 1956 and became the U.S. Navy's only operational interceptor featuring delta wings. Although the Skyray never saw combat, it served as a highly capable interceptor during the tense early years of the jet age.
