The Messerschmitt Bf109E was the Luftwaffe's primary fighter through the early stages of WWII, seeing extensive action during the Battle of Britain. The E-4 introduced a new angular canopy design, while the subsequent E-7 added the capability to carry a drop tank for extended range. A tropical-filtered TROP variant was also deployed to North Africa, where sand and dust conditions demanded modified air intakes to protect the engine.
