Tamiya RC 1/16 M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer – Mechanical Steering System

Experience authentic WWII driving mechanics with the Tamiya M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer, a 1/16 scale kit built around a genuine controlled differential steering system. Please note this is an unassembled kit requiring construction, so builders should expect to assemble the hull, running gear, and steering mechanism before driving. The 105mm Howitzer variant supported infantry with howitzer, smoke, and incendiary rounds, and late-production examples — 840 of which were built — featured horizontal volute spring suspension (HVSS) for improved off-road performance across the European and Pacific theaters.

This kit replicates the M4's real controlled differential steering system, in which braking a sprocket wheel via a differential gear slows one track while speeding up the other for smooth, mechanically efficient turns — unlike the harsher clutch-brake systems used on many contemporary tanks. Metal components are used for the drive sprockets, suspension arms, and idler wheel bases, the HVSS suspension uses metal coil springs, and pre-assembled plastic tracks with metal pins and connectors complete the running gear.
