The real M1A2 evolved from the earlier M1A1HA, adding a CITV thermal imaging sight, a Position/Navigation System, and integrated commander and driver sights, along with an IVIS system for advanced communication between friendly vehicles; it first saw action during operations in Iraq in 2003.

This model faithfully captures the Abrams's flat, angular form and offers a full range of motion, from forward and reverse driving to a variety of turns, pivots, turret rotation, and gun elevation. Firing the main gun triggers realistic recoil, vehicle kickback, an LED muzzle flash, and authentic gas turbine engine and firing sounds coordinated with the model's actions, while a directional gun barrel control system can hold the main gun trained on a set point even as the tank moves, climbs, or turns.
